Mighty by Your Word
1 Samuel 17: 4 – 51
Presently, we at Place of His Presence, and everyone who really knows his God, are like this David not the later one who had grown so much in his walk with God –no experience, no worldly equipment/apparatus, but more importantly he didn’t have the spirit of fear either.
However, we have got what really matters –the Word, blended with boldness, conviction/confidence & faith in whom we serve. What is this “word”? It is the name of the Lord. We know whose we are.
Verse 32
Confidence in the Lord –men may misconceive it for self conceit (verse 28)
Boldness –that’s the spirit God has given us (2 Timothy 1:7)
Humility –your servant will got & fight him
Verse 38 - 39
Just as you are, that’s how God wants to work through you. Do not write yourself off. Don’t try and become someone else. You are adequate. The Lord made you in the best way that will enable you excel & dominate. Everyone’s different. No two people are alike. If you try copy someone else, the best you will be if you succeed in copying is second-class. Because, there’s already the original. Don’t be a duplicate or copy. God intends for you to be number one; unique, above, not second to anyone. There’s nothing wrong with you physically or intellectually.
Verse 40
Retain who you are. Nothing needs to change, before God can work through you. Only your mental attitude towards life needs changing. You need to submit that to God for him to use. You lack nothing. You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14b). With what you are, put your faith into practice, and you will live above.
Verse 42
If you do not underestimate yourself, those who do so, do it at their own risk. Those who write you off, do so at their own peril. Despise not the days of little beginnings (Zechariah 4:10). Your enemies will leave only long enough to see what God will make of your life. In their presence, He will make you into what you want to be (Psalm 23:5a)
Verse 43
Who God has blessed, no man can curse. You’re blessed beyond a curse. God did not form you handicapped, and no man or spirit can handicap you in life. As long as you know the word of God concerning your situation, you will prevail against all odds. No one should be allowed to intimidate you into believing that you are cursed and therefore you can not make it in life or whatever you set your heart to do. That is a lie from the pit of hell. In Duet 28: 1 – 2, God has said it is blessings for them that observe and do His will, and they will be above. You will be above; the little David of PoHP will be above.
We all need to read verses 45 – 47 together as this is a classic example of the faith, confidence and conviction that God Himself respects. The enemy came with weapons of war, what did David come with? “The name of the LORD Almighty”, the mighty Man of battle, the name that is a strong tower (Prov. 18:10); the name before which EVERY THING & NAME MUST bow (Phil. 2:10). You have to be that confident in God. This level of confidence can only come from a closer walk with Him. We need to draw near to God so we can enjoy and exercise the privileges & benefits that have been given to us through Christ.
Verses 48 – 50
Flee from sin and resist the devil, but do not run from your challenges. He, who fights and runs away, has only postponed the battled. Do not entertain rubbish, do not allow enemies waste your time, suffer them not to disturb you. Confront your challenges where and when they arise. To succeed, you know how to confront them –in the name of the Lord! Not as in idle trifles, but with the word, conviction, faith and boldness. Then let’s see who that Philistine is that will withstand you, when you have declared the battle is the Lord’s.
Verse 50
People will say what they see by physical sight. In Ex. 14: 16, 21 – 22, Moses lifted up his rod & stretched out his hand toward the sea. What happened? The mighty sea parted for God’s people to walk through on dry ground! Which serious minded-person will go to the battle ground with a sling & a stone? But that was not what David went with –we know David was not a foolish man. People saw a sling and a stone, but that was not David’s weapon. People may see you with their physical eyes, but I pity those who will belittle or write you off. Because He that is in you is greater than what their eyes can ever see (1 John 4:4b). David’s weapon was the name of the Lord. And that weapon worked for him because he believed so so much in it. We saw this in the manifestation of his faith, boldness, conviction about him and the degree of God’s word in him.
Don’t be your own enemy. No one can limit you, but yourself. God has not given anyone power over you, but He has surrounded you with His word and filled you with the spirit of boldness. You have to develop your faith in Him, convict yourself of His word and move in that knowledge and confidence. Move boldly. You know the name of the Lord. You’ve got to use it! You are more than a conqueror; you are a winner! If you believe you are, let me hear you say, I am a winner. Then start acting like one. You are a mighty person. Let your words show that you believe this. Let the name of the Lord be your weapon in every single fight, battle, challenge, confrontation, project and decisions. Say the word.
Verse 51
People can say anything they like. But let your word mark you out. Two people spoke, but one man’s word came to pass. The enemy said, in verse 44, that you will be ruined and destroyed. But, you said, in verse 46a, that you will conquer and decapitate the enemy by the power of God working in you.
